Feb 2018 – Jan 2024
LOCATION
SINGAPORE
SCOPE
Tunnelling advisory services related to bored tunnels, mined tunnels, shaft excavation and construction of associated structures.
STATUS
COMPLETED
With the Deep Tunnels Sewerage System Phase 1 (DTSS1) completed in 2008 to serve the eastern parts of Singapore, the DTSS2 is now underway for the western parts of Singapore to complete the remaining portion, so as to meet Singapore’s long term needs for waste water collection, treatment, reclamation and disposal. When completed in 2025, DTSS2 will convey used water in the Western areas to the future Tuas Water Reclamation Plant, where it will be treated and purified into the Newater.
In this iconic National Project to construct gravity-based superhighway sewer tunnels, which is currently underway, MSI is providing consultancy services related to bored tunnels, mined tunnels, shaft excavation and construction of associated structures. The total tunnelling length is approximately 50km, with the network of sewer tunnels ranging from finalised internal diameter of 3.3m to about 6.0m. The scale of this project is deemed massive with the utilisation of 18 Tunnel Boring Machines, with excavation diameter as large as 7.2m.
The main challenges of this project include undercrossing Jurong River, expressways AYE and PIE, sea, cable tunnels underneath the seabed , live North-East Line MRT tunnel and CCL6 tunnels which are undergoing construction, etc. The varying ground conditions along the tunnel alignment will also put the competency of the team to test.
