In 2016, MSI undertook a transport master planning project that centres around Maldives, and more specifically, Hulhumalé, a new reclaimed island 4km from the capital, Malé. In this study, we reviewed the current transportation strategies, policies, plans and past studies, formulated a transport master plan for Hulhumalé based on the analysis undertaken by the local team, and identified potential transport issues of Hulhumalé in the context of the current development of Maldives, among other tasks. The developed transport master plan highlighted the current transport situation in Hulhumalé and gave guidelines and recommendations on how to improve the situation in the future while addressing the proposed and ongoing developments and population increase according to the Hulhumalé master plan.
